| The sling is perhaps the worst weapon in all of nethack. Because of this, I decided to make a couple of upgrades on this weapon.
First, slings now get a strength bonus, as darts and thrown daggers do. So potentially, each stone can do upto +6 damage with gauntlets of power. Second, if the monster hit is a giant (H) of any kind (giant, stone giant, even Lord Surtur), a skilled slinger will kill him in one strike. It should be noted here that Rogues cannot become skilled with slings, so no instant-kill on your nemesis :-) Overall, this patch is here to make some variety on the weapons. Slings are now the only launchers in the game to recieve strength bonuses. I doubt this will make the game any easier for anyone however; as even Cavemen with poisoned arrows will do more damage than this upgraded sling + rocks. | |
