| I agree that it needs a drawback, and also that the candle definitely has to be consumed immediately. Perhaps a chance of burning the player like a scroll of fire, or blinding the player like an exploding yellow light, or both?
Also, I think this should anger a priest, and be a bad idea alignment-wise for priest characters.... and if the reason you can't pray is because your god is angry at you, this shouldn't help ("why aren't you sacrificing and groveling, mortal?")[Quote] | ||

| I'm neutral on this one. As John H. said, it's kind of a poetic idea, but it also falls into the category of patches that unambiguously help the player (even if only a little bit), and I don't think NetHack needs many of those. You've got an interesting idea, but what kinds of tradeoffs or risks or other negative factors could you add to this new use for candles?[Quote] | ||

| Candles are only really good for one thing in the game so far, and this is a rather poetic idea, so I kinda like this.
I'd say that the candle should be consumed in a flash, however, if prayer is possible, to prevent a single candle becoming an infallible way of determining prayer suitability for the whole game. And the candle should go completely out if dropped on an altar in Gehennom (where prayer isn't ever possible anyway).[Quote] | ||
